My personal favourite method for stabilising temperature are these gel packs that heat up in warm water. I like them as they heat up quickly but also evenly and are flexible so can be wrapped around a bird or small mammal
 
They can also be used as a cool compress to reduce the tempedrature of animals with hyperthermia.
